How Do Product Development Strategies Differ From Market Development Strategies

I believe there is a big difference in product and marketing strategies. One typically comes after the other (and after launch runs hand and hand). Let’s say I have a new product called Sleep Coffee. Decaf coffee that chills you out before you go to bed. The product strategy with this coffee might be to ensure quality ingredients, get material costs down, make sure that the coffee does indeed mellow you out before going to sleep. All the focus is on how to make this product the best it can be for the consumer. For a marketing strategy, the focus is, how can we get this product out in front of as many decaf coffee drinkers as we can for a low margin, (Cost Per Customer through advertising). How can we get our CTR lower. How can we make our bounce rate lower. How can we make a super compelling ad spot that increases clicks and engagement. That what marketing is all about, gaining attention for an already quality product.
