Spotted In Gulf Breeze Creative Process

Introduction

The project embarked upon for Zoofari Parks by Ann involved the creation of captivating banners under the theme “Spotted in Gulf Breeze”. These banners were inspired by a specific design Ann admired and aimed to incorporate elements that would make the imagery leap off the canvas, providing a dynamic, three-dimensional effect. Our journey through this creative endeavor navigated through various challenges, ultimately leading to the delivery of three distinct banner versions: conservative, modern, and designer’s pick.

Conceptualization

The initial request was intriguing: to craft a banner that not only carried the essence of the inspiration but also brought a unique three-dimensional flair to the portrayal of the animals, specifically focusing on making the ears pop out of the canvas. The addition of Zoofari Parks’ logo, initially in white and adapted from the preferred black, added another layer of complexity to the task.

The Client saw this billboard and wanted to use it as inspiration.

Tools and Execution

Opting for Canva over Illustrator marked our first major decision, driven by its user-friendliness and abundant stock resources. This choice proved pivotal, streamlining our workflow without compromising on creativity or quality.

Magic Background Removal

This feature was instrumental in isolating the animals from their backgrounds. By applying it to images of three leopards and one cheetah, we prepared our subjects for further manipulation.

Ears Off the Canvas:

To achieve the three-dimensional effect, the original images were carefully masked after background removal. This allowed us to artistically extend the ears beyond the banner edges, creating an illusion of depth and interaction with the viewer’s space.

Incorporating QR Codes

Each banner was enhanced with a QR code, blending functionality with design. These codes not only engaged viewers but also seamlessly bridged the gap between physical and digital interaction.

Creative Variations

The project culminated in the creation of three versions of the banner, each tailored to embody a distinct aesthetic and mood:

Conservative Version

This design aimed to appeal to traditional tastes, prioritizing clarity and simplicity while still incorporating the standout 3D effect of the animal ears.

Modern Version

With a focus on contemporary trends, this banner featured sleek design elements and a more dynamic use of space, appealing to a younger, more design-conscious audience.

Designer’s PickIncorporating QR Codes

A personal favorite, this version was a testament to unrestricted creativity. It balanced boldness with sophistication, pushing the boundaries of conventional banner design.
