Better SEO Rank By Setting HTTPS Sitewide Now

Better SEO Ranking By Setting HTTPS Sitewide

Start Right is Now Using HTTPS Globally For SEO & Security

Say good bye to the days of wondering whether you’re browsing safely or not. When Https is enabled on every page, you don’t have to wonder. And Google is rewarding site owners with better for being progressive. And your SEO will thank you.

SIDE NOTE: If you’re into web security, we recommend you checkout our Startup Security Section.

They want every page that shows up in their search engine results to be secure for their users. This of course will take years, but you can jump ahead of the rest and protect your users and benefit from ranking higher in search engine results now.

Here’s a snippet straight from Google:

For these reasons, over the past few months we’ve been running tests taking into account whether sites use secure, encrypted connections as a signal in our search ranking algorithms. We’ve seen positive results, so we’re starting to use HTTPS as a ranking signal. For now it’s only a very lightweight signal — affecting fewer than 1% of global queries, and carrying less weight than other signals such as high-quality content — while we give webmasters time to switch to HTTPS. But over time, we may decide to strengthen it, because we’d like to encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web.

How To Setup Your Website For Improved SEO

The process of turning your website into a HTTPS castle are as follows.

  1. Purchase an SSL certificate
  2. Link the SSL certificate to your domain
  3. Relink all of your assets to https URLs instead of http so your SSL certificate doesn’t through security errors
  4. Test every page to ensure you see the green lock.

For the coders our there, here’s the snippet that I used after changing all of my assets to call https paths.

RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on
RewriteRule ^ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
RewriteRule ^ - [E=protossl]
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on
RewriteRule ^ - [E=protossl:s]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^(www|mobile|forum)\. [NC]
RewriteRule ^ http%{ENV:protossl}://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
